Celebrating the 40th Anniversary of the Sisters in St. Mary’s
On Sunday, October 3rd the sisters celebrated the 40th anniversary of their arrival in St. Mary’s. Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre sent his sisters to St. Mary’s in order to assist the priests by their prayers and to collaborate in the apostolate. St. Mary’s will always be most dear to the Sisters of the Society as it was their first overseas foundation.
The anniversary day began with a beautiful solemn High Mass followed by a slideshow presentation on the Sisters’ congregation and apostolate here in St. Mary’s over the past 40 years. All then proceeded to the quad where 500 helium balloons were released into the air to the great joy of all, young and old - a beautiful sight to behold! A statue of Our Lady of Sorrows was enshrined in the center of the quad with an anniversary cake at her feet. During the banquet, Father Rutledge surprised the sisters with a present—a magnificent red vestment from the 19th century.
After such a wonderful day, we wish to thank everyone who participated in any way in this celebration. We also wish to thank our many guests for attending our anniversary of thanksgiving for these past forty years. Ad multos annos.
